Our client is an exhibition stand design and project management agency with a long standing track record in their sector and a very positive brand, particularly well known for their quality of service and delivery of projects on behalf of a broad range of large corporate customers, both in the UK and Europe.

The directors/owners are now looking to find a high calibre General Manager who will join the business, with a view to handling the day to day operations across all functional areas and ultimately provide the succession to enable the owners to step back from their day to day responsibilities, moving towards retirement.

The role is diverse and, amongst other duties, you will be involved in the following areas:

  • Day to day operational aspects of running the business
  • Input into project management and delivery
  • Financial performance targets and monitoring
  • Managing a team of over 15 staff, involving all aspects of recruitment/retention
  • Marketing initiatives and strategies
  • Sales growth and business development
  • Customer interaction, negotiations and management
  • Ad hoc commercial and operational tasks

In order to be successful in this role, the appointee will be/possess the following traits, strengths and qualities:

  • A team player
  • Hands-on style
  • Ability to run an SME business with growth plans
  • Confident, strong personality
  • Experienced in project delivery to critical timeframes, ideally in a creative sector business
  • Excellent communications skills, with the ability to effect successful relationships, both internally and externally, with team members and customers, suppliers and other third parties alike
  • Gravitas, with clear leadership qualities and a straight talking style of management
  • Team building skills and an inclusive, coaching style and mentality
  • Ability to work successfully in a small company
  • Ability to see the bigger picture, whilst still remaining focussed on day to day operations
  • Financially astute, with a clear grasp of the need to manage cashflows
  • Ideally on a short notice period or immediately available

This is a key role in the future management of the company and as such, the role requires the person to operate from the company’s premises 5 days per week.

In summary, this role could offer the successful candidate a “stepping stone” to the role of Managing Director, at an appropriate point in the near future. At that point, a higher salary could be on offer, along with bonus/equity share discussions. In summary, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a very solid business with real growth potential, where you can really develop your personal brand and longer term career path.
