General Manager – China
$125,000 to $150,000 dependent upon experience – plus: suitable relocation and excellent benefits package including attractive bonus.
Our client is a US$140m+ international group, serving blue chip customers in the mining, minerals and smelting industry who is now looking for a capable and experienced general management professional to run its operations in China. The company has grown considerably over recent years and China has been a key part of this growth. As such, this role represents a high profile opportunity to run one of the key territories within the group. The role will be relatively autonomous however there will be regular liaison and visits from key Head Office personnel.
The business has approx.: 130 technical & support staff operating in the main ports and strategic locations inland.
There is a strong and established management structure to handle all operational, financial, QC and personnel matters for the successful candidate to work through. To be successful, you will need to possess general management and commercial skills gained from within a certification, sampling, testing or metallurgical services business covering ferrous/non-ferrous metals, with existing customer relationships in the commodity sector including miners, smelters and brokers. You will have a good level of technical competence, coupled with hands on style and a clear thinking approach which will instil confidence in staff and customers alike. Additional language skills in Mandarin would be useful although not essential.
Your technical experience will bring gravitas and credibility to the role and you will be a capable staff manager, committed to people development. Additionally, you will be comfortable working closely with customers to not only handle day to day matters pertaining to existing work commitments, but also to undertake an ongoing business development function.
Regular travel throughout the PRC for managerial/operational reasons and both internal and overseas for marketing purposes is an essential aspect of the role.
