Our client, a large international group providing inspection and analysis services to the mining sector is looking for an experienced, dynamic and capable General Manager to run its operations in Zambia.
This is a demanding territory for the Group and, as such, requires a focused individual who will be able to maintain and develop the existing business operations with a view to maximising profitability, while at the same time identifying business opportunities, managing financial risk and maintaining the Group’s positive reputation world-wide.
As a General/Country Manager, you will be responsible for achieving financial and operational goals, whilst maintaining a high standard of service. To deliver these goals, you will be the key person on site, managing a large and diversified technical team of over 190 staff and will take full responsibility for the operation’s financial, operational and commercial management, profitability and promotion of the group’s core services to generate new business. Unique in the Group, the Zambian business also offers mine support services for example, environmental testing, oil monitoring, non-destructive testing and materials evaluation. The General manager will be responsible for the continuing promotion of these services to the local business community. To be successful, you will need to: coordinate the strategic planning process; oversee effective management structures and systems; apply appropriate risk management controls; drive effective quality control systems; be capable of running large teams of staff; be credible with customers and group management alike. The ideal candidate will be a confident and capable general management professional, with proven experience and strong reputation gained from operating in Africa, possess a hands-on style of management and a commitment to people development. Your communications skills will be well honed and you will be comfortable working remotely but with regular liaison with Head Office in the UK and other Group entities.
